At Tartaruga Designs we are a husband and wife duo team passionate about design, and providing beautiful, handmade, bespoke lighting to create a statement in anyone’s home, office, store or business. Tartaruga Designs was born of a vision to have a creative outlet for the owner’s ideas. Vanesse being a designer and Roger being in manufacturing, the product range develops from there.
Tartaruga Designs has its headquarters in the small town of Dundee, nestled in the northern foothills of the mighty Drakensberg mountain range, an area formed for its spectacular mountain views and purity of the natural wood. It is from these sourroundings that we draw inspiration for lighting; a play of shadows and warm light is our favourite way to decorate a room, and the shapes of the pendants are inspired by the natural beauty native to our homeland.
Vanesse herself draws the pendant designs and prepares them for laser cutting, Roger watches that the laser cuts precisely as it should, and carefully cleans any soot from the laser burning through the wood off the pieces before assembling the pendants by hand. Our company ethos can be summed up as “Take the time and do it right”, as we personally craft each light to meet the client’s wishes, modifying size and colour to suit their indiviuals needs, with a particular dedication to the quality of our products.
Tartaruga Designs has appeared at several decorating expos in South Africa, winning an award for the best Craft stand at Decorex Johannesburg in 2019. It has been growing steadily as a name which can be trusted to deliver custom made lighting and decorative items to households and restaurants throughout the country, and has recently been accepted by a local home decor chain as a supplier of creative lighting.
